itoms
Building a future where communication isn’t about capturing attention. It’s about respecting it. Owning it. And using it with intention.

Social media has become a space of focus fatigue for users and unachievable reach for brands.
Social media was originally designed to connect people. Over time, it evolved into something very different. Algorithms now determine visibility. Brands compete for increasingly fragmented attention. Users are overwhelmed by endless notifications, advertising and reactive content loops.
As social platforms became more crowded, organisations found themselves trapped in a paradox: invest more to reach less.
The result is a system where attention is extracted, audiences are rented, and meaningful communication becomes increasingly difficult.
What if your content wasn’t fighting for survival in an algorithmic feed, but arriving exactly where it’s meant to?Cherine Magora, co-founder and CEO itoms
From the attention economy to the intention economy
People are becoming more intentional about where they spend their attention. Users are seeking calmer digital environments, greater control over notifications, more meaningful content and more transparent relationships with platforms.
Online emotional balance
Users are suffocated by in-app pings and attention triggers. “Digital detox” behaviours are rising as people seek to escape notification overload.
Awareness on mental health
“Neurowellness”: Consumers are increasingly rejecting the "hustle culture" and reactive content loops in favour of emotional repair.
Digital ethics
Consumers are more aware than ever of data tracking and manipulation. They expect transparency, control, and ethical digital experiences.
A brand designed for slower media
The visual language moves away from the urgency, noise and overstimulation typically associated with social platforms. Instead, it creates a sense of calm, ownership and intentionality—reflecting Itoms’ mission to build healthier, more transparent relationships between brands and their audiences.
Each character represents a different media format, or what we call an “itom type.” Paired with a simple, primary colour system, these characters make content easier to identify and the platform more intuitive to navigate, while giving the brand a distinctive and approachable personality.

A decentralised communication layer
We designed itoms as a decentralised communication platform that lives inside a brand's own digital home. The goal was to allow brands to publish directly to their audience from a central dashboard while keeping traffic, data and attention on their own domain.
itoms allows brands to publish content directly on their own website through an embedded widget or standalone branded hub. Instead of sending users away to external social platforms, the audience stays within the brand's own ecosystem.

Articles
Long-form writing for ideas, stories, insights, and deep dives.
Pictures
Visual storytelling through a single image or a curated moment.
Video
Dynamic, immersive content for showing rather than telling.
Audio
Recordings, podcasts series, voice notes, enhanced with AI transcripts.

Interactive questions for gathering opinions, preferences and feedback.
Shouts
Quick, expressive updates that are fast, bold, and to the point.
The widget
At the heart of itoms is a lightweight embedded widget that lives directly inside a brand's website. Rather than sending users away to third-party platforms, the widget creates a dedicated publishing space feed within the brand's own digital home.

The Standalone
For users without an existing website, itoms provides a complete publishing platform out of the box.
With no code required, brands can launch, customise and begin publishing immediately while maintaining the same principles of ownership, privacy and intentional communication.

Treating user attention as sacred
itoms respects attention by design. Instead of intrusive app pings, users choose exactly when and how they hear from a subscribed itoms page via governed email updates.
Subscribers set their own rhythm, instant updates, weekly summaries, or 30-day digests, so communication happens on their terms
A direct handshake between brands and their audience.
Our promise to you
No spam, push notifications or in-app pings. When and how you engage is entirely up to you.

The market opportunity
A shift in regulation, safety policy and public sentiment created a clear opening for Itoms. Growing concern around the impact of social media, particularly on younger audiences, was placing greater pressure on big tech, while rising costs and declining returns were prompting brands to rethink how they reach and engage people.
Recognising this moment allowed us to position Itoms for an early market entry, connecting with creators and brands seeking a healthier, more transparent alternative.
Identifying the right early adopters
Defining who to target, and how to position the product, was one of the project’s biggest strategic challenges. While most organisations still rely on large social platforms to communicate with their audiences, we identified a growing number of niche communities actively looking for slower, safer alternatives.
Universities, faith communities, professional services, youth-focused brands, schools and independent creators emerged as strong early adopters. Each faced a distinct communication challenge, but shared the same need: greater ownership of their audience, clearer channels and less dependence on big tech.
